GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 475521
Gnometris scoring is poor
Last modified: 2013-07-20 13:15:52 UTC
This bug has been filled here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-games/+bug/138603 "Binary package hint: gnome-games The scoreboard doesn't track the number of lines you remove, and unlike every other Tetris implementation there are no bonus points for dropping a tile early. Worse still, the points make no sense. Scoring 4 at once is 7.5 times as valuable as scoring 4 lines separately, yet both advance the level the same. With this scoring system, the game quickly degenerates into little more than trying to line up Tetrises until you get to a level where it becomes impossible to place your pieces where you want them."
This isn't a bug at all. Not every other Tetris implementation gives bonus points for dropping tiles early - the early Tetris games (including the GameBoy version IIRC) don't have this. Giving bonus points for getting a Tetris (4 lines at once) is however, absolutely standard behaviour for the game.
I agree with this. If you choose to start the game at say level 10, you receive the same amount of points as if you were starting at 1, and moving upwards.
I am sorry we didn't get to this. This bug was filed against gnometris. If this issue still exists in current versions of quadrapassel (formerly gnometris) then please feel free to create a new ticket. Thank you for your help.
