GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 462088
Semi-automatic missing plugin installation for GStreamer backend
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:35:10 UTC
Hi, please consider adding support for the semi-automatic missing plugin installation of GStreamer. This feature was added with 0.10.12 and is already used in FC, Debian and Ubuntu since some time. See http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/data/doc/gstreamer/head/gst-plugins-base-libs/html/gst-plugins-base-libs-gstpbutilsinstallplugins.html for more information. Should be fairly easy to integrate into banshee.
It shall be done. I've been waiting for this to land, so thanks for poking about it!
The code seems to be ever present in the banshee-player-missing-elements.c in libanshee. Someone know if it still do not work? Aaron have add it the 2008-06-05. So I guess this bug can be close
As discussed on IRC: 01:50:38 <Bertrand> hyperair: So I guess missing plugin installation still doesn't work ? I'll try to have a look 01:50:57 <hyperair> Bertrand: it's very erratic. 01:51:08 <hyperair> Bertrand: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. 01:51:27 <hyperair> Bertrand: and sometimes there's a false-positive. 01:51:40 <hyperair> Bertrand: er basically there's a false-positive and false-negative, yeah
Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/Infrastructure/issues/264 for more info.
