GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 454239
Rhythmbox should have an option to copy files to the default folder when importing
Last modified: 2013-03-14 21:58:41 UTC
When you import music files in Rhythmbox, the actual file is not copied, only its URI is added to the library. In f-spot, for example, when you import files, you have a checkbox (checked by default) to let you copy the files to the library folder (~/Photos for f-spot). I think it would be useful to have such a feature in Rhythmbox. That would avoid the case where people rip a CD on their desktop, import the files in Rhythmbox, then delete the files, only to find out that the files disappeared from Rhythmbox as well.
I really miss a way to import music like this and consolidate it, like in iTunes. This what keeps me from not using Rhythmbox. Thumbs up for this.
I totally agree with you, I would like my music files to be copied in my Music Folder like this: Artist/Album/Music.mp3 Why it isn't possible? It looks like an easy feature, doesn't it?

555514 is a bit more than this, allows organization of music on an ID3 tag edit as well to conform to music folder structure, etc.

Of course, I should add that files imported from within the default library path shouldn't be copied again into it. BTW: why is this enhancement request still "unconfirmed" after 3 years?
I believe this is fixed in later versions. The import dialog has a option for copying over file. I am currently investigating a plug-in to consolidate the library according to the library structure setting in Rhythmbox. For later maintenance/spring cleaning work.
