Can you attach a copy of ~/.xsession-errors from after one of these failed login attempts?

xsession-errors

Yes, of course :-)

Thanks

"The application 'gnome-session' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application."

Hm... seems like an X bug. Are you using a binary video driver (ati/nvidia)?

The X server and gdm logs might indicate something. I'm not sure where they
would be on gentoo. (/var/log I imagine?)

Gdm logs are in /var/log/gdm/, I attach it, seems that there is a backtrace.

I use nvidia drivers, but I have the same problem using "nv" driver
Comment 5 Dan Winship 2007-05-05 21:11:27 UTC
Well, if X is crashing, there's nothing we can do. (And if it's crashing
inside the nvidia driver there's not much anyone can do.) I'd suggest
following up in your gentoo bug report with a crash/stack trace using the
nv driver and an X server built with full debug info.

OK, thanks a lot for your help, I will do that :-)
