Floppy diskette causes crash in GEdit and other programs
Last modified: 2007-02-20 22:16:39 UTC
Distribution: Ubuntu 6.06 (dapper) Package: gedit Severity: Normal Version: GNOME2.14.3 2.14.4 Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu Synopsis: Floppy diskette causes crash in GEdit and other programs Bugzilla-Product: gedit Bugzilla-Component: general Bugzilla-Version: 2.14.4 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.14.1) Description: Description of the crash: If a floppy diskette is mounted and it is removed from the drive without unmounting, attempts to access its files causes various programs (e.g. GEdit) to crash Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Mount a diskette 2. Remove the diskette physically from the drive 3. Try to access its (still) displayed files Expected Results: Programs crash How often does this happen? Often (if not always). Additional Information: I first noticed this with one of my own programs. I thought it was my own bug, but then I noticed it was a system problem. Floppy diskettes may be on their way out, but half the people in the world still use them! Programmers therefore have to take them seriously. Or if it provides a better incentive to fix such long-term troubles Ubuntu users have suffered with diskettes, please note that this does not happen in Windows! Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/gedit' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". (no debugging symbols found) [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] [New Thread -1225405664 (LWP 22474)] (no debugging symbols found) 0xffffe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
