Thanks for the bug report. Unfortunately, that stack trace is not very useful in determining the cause of the crash. Can you get us one with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so.

And that's it. Any idea what's up?

Could you please try to disable the spell checker plugin and try again?
Yes, disabling the spellchecker got it working for me. No more crashes on exit. Thanks :) Guess it's just that one plugin that has the issue. Luckily I don't really need that plugin at the moment :)
It is not an issue with the spell checker plugin itself, but it is probably a linking problem due to the fact aspell (the library gedit uses for the spell checking) is written in C++. Do you get some error messages on the terminal before crashing?
Yes, I get this: [a9909@a9909 /usr/home/a9909]$ gedit (gedit:33245): Gnome-CRITICAL **: gnome_program_get_app_version: assertion `program != NULL' failed That's all, though.

this seems to affect FreeBSD only, and seems to be caused by gnome-vfs ... Paolo? However we need a better trace.
The same problem (crash on quit, spelling plugin exists) has also been reported to fink for its package of gedit-2.12.1 on OS X 10.3 but that it does not crash on OS X 10.4. However, I am not presently able to recreate the crash on my 10.3 machine using either gnome-vfs 2.10.1 (the version fink had when the crash was reported) or gnome-vfs 2.15.2 (the version fink presently has). Weird.

Here are the errors I get: ** (gedit:37855): WARNING **: Throbber rest icon not found sys:1: Warning: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to `GeditPanel' ** (gedit:37855): CRITICAL **: _gedit_panel_get_active_item_id: assertion `GEDIT_IS_PANEL (panel)' failed sys:1: Warning: invalid uninstantiatable type `(null)' in cast to `GeditPanel' ** (gedit:37855): CRITICAL **: _gedit_panel_get_active_item_id: assertion `GEDIT_IS_PANEL (panel)' failed (gedit:37858): Gnome-CRITICAL **: gnome_program_get_app_version: assertion `program != NULL' failed Disabling the spell-checker plugin did resolve the problem.

This is a well known problem we have on FreeBSD. It is not due to the spell checker plugin itself, but it is probably a linking problem due to the fact aspell (the library gedit used for the spell checking) is written in C++. There is nothing we can do to fix it in gedit, please report this bug to the FreeBSD GNOME maintainer. Closing as NOTGNOME.
