Description José Alvarado 2006-06-24 07:52:11 UTC
When rolling up a window by double-clicking on its titlebar, it still exists on the screen. It can still accept input (like close, etc), it can be moved around, and it participates in window ordering. Yet somehow it's completely absent from the workspace switcher.

My suggestion: Include rolled-up windows in the workspace switcher. This will improve the spatial correspondence between a workspace and its representation in the switcher.

Other information:
I'm not sure if this is a simple oversight or a conscious design decision. A rolled-up window would scale down to about a pixel in thickness, making it tough to represent in small workspace switchers. This problem should be addressable, though.

To libwnck/gnome-panel, rolled-up windows are indistinguishable from minimized windows. This is a bug in the design of the EWMH, which would need to be fixed (with the corresponding changes first implemented in metacity and other relevant WMs) before libwnck could do anything about it. There have been discussions on the wm-spec-list a year or two about this, and we kind of came to a consensus about what to do, but nothing real came of it.

Add ewmh to whiteboard to indicate that we need some work in EWMH for this bug.
