GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 339388
Headless rhythmbox
Last modified: 2018-05-24 11:31:48 UTC
I'd love to be able to run a daap server without needing X, and since rhythmbox already deals with music database and stuff, it would be easier if it wouldn't require to be a different piece of software. Thus this feature request.
Removing all the X dependancies to make a headless Rhythmbox would basically result in a "different piece of software" anyway. Have a look at mt-daapd (http://www.mt-daapd.org/). It works very well for me.
mt-daapd doesn't work with FLACs.
I do use mt-daapd, but it has several flows. Anyway, a rhythmbox without X wouldn't be a totally "different piece of software". The database handling, the gstreamer backend usage, etc. would all be the same...

Except I'd pretty much appreciate if it would share the code base and libs with rhythmbox. So that bugs are fixed in both. So that the experience is the same.
