Add support for firefox search engines, and opensearch search engines [http://opensearch.a9.com/] to epiphany, either as smartbookmarks or for a separate search entry.

IE7 implements this way of adding a search provider on click: window.external.AddSearchProvider("URL")
We need to implement the new (>= gecko 1.8.1) nsISidebarExternal interface in EphySidebar.

Any reason this bug is still open? Does OpenSearch autodiscovery even work? I've never seen it in action...
Autodiscovery works in firefox. E.g. go to http://library.gnome.org/ you'll see the the dropdown menu lighting up. When you click on the dropdown you can add the search engine for library.gnome.org In epiphany it would be really cool if a search box could be added which can handle the opensearch engines
Opensearchfox is an extension for firefox that allows to add a search engine by right-clicking in a search text entry on a web page : it allows users to add search engine to the browser in a very easy way. I really like the way we can search within the url bar in Epiphany : it's very instinctive. But what is not instinctive at all is how to add new search engines. Having the possibility to add a search engine by right-clicking in a search text entry on a web page would be a real improvement to make Epiphany easier to user. I don't know if it's related but i've erad that WebKitGTK+ 1.1.15 has "a new function, webkit_web_view_get_hit_test_result, which allows to do a 'hit test' on the coordinates specified by a mouse event. A hit test provides context information about that point in the document, like whether it's an image, a link, an input box, etc." I don't know if it's needed to implement the suggestion. Because Gnome Shell supports Opensearch providers, I believe Epiphany should take advantage of that. See http://askubuntu.com/questions/67660/is-it-possible-to-customise-the-search-engine-buttons-in-gnome-shell/72548#72548 for explanation.
