GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 322229
System Monitor collapsed into a line
Last modified: 2020-11-06 19:56:54 UTC
Version details: 2.12.1 Distribution/Version: Ubuntu Breezy Forwarded from: http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=18098 What has happened to my System Monitor (see attached image)? I am using Breezy. http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/attachment.cgi?id=4683 I never experienced this before, and I have used Hoary for 6 months and have upgraded to Breezy the day it was released. I can't say for sure, but I think it was already collapsed right after booting. I did not play around at all with the panel. In the meantime, I had to reboot. The panel is now showing as usual, so the (persistant) configuration of the panel seems to be okay. It just happened again. I did not do anything special, just boot up like every day. What info do you need? What should I try? It seems to be fully functional: I can hover over it and get the Processor Usage tooltip. I can left-click and System Monitor opens. I can right-click and get the menu. Its just a bit hard to point at a line that is only one pixel high.
The bug link is now: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/24243
The same bug is present in Dapper, Gnome 2.14. I have all 5 monitors, and they all shrinked like in the previous attachment. This happened before once, seems like it has no particular trigger.
This happens to me about once every 10-20 logins. I log out and login again at the system monitors are fine. Still a problem with gnome-2.16_rc1.
Still happening with GNOME 2.16: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/64027
The same bug is present on Ubuntu Edgy. This happens to me about once every 10-20 logins. I didn't count it :-), but it is obvious that it is non-deterministic.
*** Bug 383168 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This bug is present in Ubuntu Gutsy with Gnome 2.19.6. System monitor version is 2.19.1
This bug is present in Ubuntu Hardy Heron with Gnome 2.22.0. System monitor version is 2.22.0 $ uname -a Linux madneon 2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Fri Apr 4 03:10:59 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ gnome-panel --version GNOME gnome-panel 2.22.0 (System Monitor 2.22.0)
Happens to me fairly frequently with gnome-panel 2.24.1, Fedora 10, x86_64. It also occurs when the multiload applet is displaying multiple indicators: all are collapsed into a line. Moving the panel does not fix it; restarting the panel or the multiload applet does.
Bug is still present in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx with Gnome 2.30.2, System Monitor v.2.30.0. A temporary workaround is: right-click on the applet, select preferences and adjust the width.
