Description Jon A. Cruz 2005-02-26 06:27:43 UTC
Even though it's relatively new, I believe that SVG 1.2's multiImage and related
elements as covered in section 12.3 of SVG 1.2 would be an extremely useful feature.

Additionally, the work to get it implemented might overlap well with the work to
get switch working.

i don't believe that we'll be adding this to rsvg anytime soon, as we have much
more pressing things on our plate at the moment and no theme/icon artists have
asked for good <image> support, much less <multiImage>.

for future reference, multi-image's spec is here:
http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG12/media.html#multiImage-element
Comment 2 Jakub Steiner 2005-02-28 04:20:58 UTC
If I understand this correctly, multiImage enables me to provide a separate
version of an image for lower resolutions. I consider myself an artist who would
find this functionality very appealing if supported by both Inkscape and rsvg,
since it would considerably simplify theme maintanence.

I've written up a small blurb on why it's necersary to deal with lower
resolution icons - http://jimmac.musichall.cz/weblog.php/Inkscape/SVG-NG.php
Comment 3 Dominic Lachowicz 2005-10-07 02:23:40 UTC
there's a hack in CVS that very loosly approximates multiImage's behavior
