GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 163575
Window selector applet showing a "blank" icon between app icons
Last modified: 2018-01-24 13:25:27 UTC
When you switch application using the window selector applet, you can often see a "blank" icon (the piece-of-paper icon) flash briefly in the applet just before the new application sets in. This is visually distracting. It is especially noticeable the first time you select an application, after that the flashing is much faster and you cannot see it as well (some caching is happening I guess).
The Window Selector now uses the new WnckSelector widget from libwnck. Moving bugs to libwnck.
Moving to the right component. Sorry for the spam.
Vincent: is this happening with metacity HEAD?
Yup. Actually now it's not the piece-of-paper icon that flashes, but the new icon-for-applications-without-icon (ie the symbolic window thing).
Note that the icon only appears for a very short while. I can trigger it easier with epiphany, but the more you switch your windows, the harder it is to see the bug.
Related to bug 155867 and bug 160373/160660 at all?
Well the icon change mentioned in comment #4 is surely due to these two bugs being fixed. Apart from that, I can't see any relation. The present bug is not about the icon itself, but the fact that this icon shows itself briefly in the window selector applet during a window-switching operation (between the icons of the windows being switched).
I still can trigger this bug.
I don't remember ever seeing it, though I don't look at or use the selector much. Hopefully someone else can track it down or I notice sometime. g *shrug*
I can see this happening very briefly when changing workspace (but not all the times). I guess that in this case, that's because it's not possible to activate a workspace *and* a window at the same time.
