Description david.hawthorne 2003-11-04 15:53:16 UTC
using a gnome-2.4 build from 03/11/03

-launch gnome-terminal
-go to edit -> current profile
-press <Alt><C> to close this window

expected:
the window closes

actual:
focus moves to the 'Cursor blinks' checkbox widget
-press <Alt><C> again
focus moves back to the 'Close' widget
both appear to have Alt-C as their accelarator.
Comment 1 david.hawthorne 2003-11-04 16:09:00 UTC
I've been reliably informed this is rather a feature than a bug. closing.
Comment 2 Mariano Suárez-Alvarez 2003-11-04 16:21:04 UTC
Really? Could you share your source?
If that was the case, we should add things with the C mnemonic if the
*other* pages of the profile editor, so that the feature is everywhere...
Comment 3 Calum Benson 2003-11-04 16:38:19 UTC
I think there's some confusion as to what is the feature and what is
the bug :)

The 'feature' is that gtk will gracefully handle duplicate mnemonics,
by cycling focus between them. However, although it isn't explicitly
mentioned in v1.0 of the HIG, the v1.1 draft does advise that no other
controls in a dialog have mnemonics that clash with its main control
buttons (usually Help, OK, Close, Cancel or Apply):
http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/draft_hig_new/input-keyboard.html#choosing-access-keys

Re-opening on that basis, although you could probably persuade me it
was Low priority...
Comment 4 Mariano Suárez-Alvarez 2003-11-04 22:59:39 UTC
[Shouldn't the HIG just advise not to have any mnemonic clashes tout
court? If you run out of letters for that, you have way too many
controls anyways.]

I'll change "_Cursor blinks" to "Cursor blin_ks" (the k looks
distinctive enought there, I guess, and the b is taken) unless someone
complains. This will go in HEAD only, as it will break translation.
Comment 5 Mariano Suárez-Alvarez 2003-11-07 04:29:31 UTC
Fixed in HEAD now.
