Description Bryce Harrington 2002-12-21 22:15:30 UTC
Description of Problem:

When pasting text from clipboard into the term
when its running a word wrapping editor such
as vi or emacs, the terminal tends to add extra
spacing at start of line.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Copy text such as the following into buffer:

Non-indented
 * Indented
 * Indented2
 * Indented3

2. In a gnome-terminal window, open 'emacs -nw'
or vi, with word wrapping activated.

3. Paste text from buffer into terminal window.
(e.g., click middle mouse)

Actual Results:
Non-indented
 * Indented
  * Indented2
   * Indented3

Expected Results:

Non-indented
 * Indented
 * Indented2
 * Indented3

How often does this happen?

Consistently, whenever pasting text in.

Additional Information:

gnome-terminal 2.0.1 on Mandrake 9.0, running
stock KDE and emacs 21.2.1 or vim 6.1.165

Same steps were tested on konsole, Eterm, xterm,
and RXVT using same programs, pasted text, and
environment; only gnome-terminal exhibited the
issue.

Are you using vte or libzvt?
Comment 2 Bryce Harrington 2002-12-21 22:26:57 UTC
{bryce@sherborne} ~       (1): rpm -qa | grep vte
{bryce@sherborne} ~       (2): rpm -qa | grep zvt
libzvt2.0_0-2.0.1-6mdk

I cannot reproduce this as of 2.6.0. Can anyone? I think Nalin changed something
related to this...
Comment 4 Mariano Suárez-Alvarez 2004-07-09 22:25:11 UTC
Hmm. Bryce was using zvt, and we don't actually use it any more.
vte does not have this issue, so I'll close this.
