GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 97174
Shortcut for logging out in the HIG
Last modified: 2020-12-04 18:20:02 UTC
There should be a shortcut that allows for logging out of the desktop environment (or rather, bringing up the logout dialog). In Windows, this shortcut is Alt+F4 (given that there are no active windows). I suggest that it be specified this way in the HIG too for familiarity.
I think this is probably a requirement for Nautilus or Metacity rather than the HIG... opinions?
The reason I think this should be in the HIG is that I'm not convinced that this type of shortcut will be added to Metacity or Nautilus unless it's in the HIG. Maybe I'm wrong?
If a shortcut is chosen then it should of course go in the list of standard shortcuts so other apps don't use it for something else. But since it's a special shortcut that only one application cares about, I'm not sure it deserves any more attention than that in the HIG. So I guess I'm saying I'd still like you to raise the bug against nautilus or metacity first :)
Done, say hello to bug 99335.
Should this be reopened or closed?
Reopened and component set. The HIG should list all the standard shortcuts to avoid conflicts.
I've added Ctrl-Alt-Del to the HIG, on the strength of #99335, although I'm not sure if that's actually made it into community GNOME yet.
