RFE - ability to record 'clear' date as well as transaction date
Last modified: 2018-06-29 20:17:04 UTC
For example - I chose to pay my gas bill via check on 8/1/02, gas company cashes (and shows up on my gas co account) on 8/5/02, but doesn't clear at bank till 8/7/02. That's a contrived example, but the case of buying something at a store with a credit card/check, and not having it show up at bank till a month later isn't. I'd want to record both dates. Most straightforward UI way of doing this that I could think of would be to have an additional date stored per-split on each transaction. The current date would be used as the transaction date, but you could optionally specify a date next to each split for when it cleared on that account. On credit card statements, usually both are listed in the statement, so I'm not sure of the best way to display this in the register. Maybe the first line would show the transaction date, and the clear date for THIS account. Split lines would show clear dates for each split.
the 'e' is for 'enchancement'.
I'm joining Nathan to believe this would be an important and useful enhancement. In many juridictions, accountability _must_ be done in operation date, not in value date. Sometimes refered as accrual basis accounting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accrued_revenue http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accounting_methods#Accrual_basis To palliate this problem, of course it would be possible to create 2 transactions, one for the operation including a provision, and a second one for the cash settlement. But it would be too complex for simple and usual operations like paying a check. Adding a "transaction date" or "operation date" as suggested by Nathan is a straightforward solution. By default, it could be the settlement date. This system could even be shut off by an option if one really wants to think only in settlement date.
