Description Matthew Werny 2002-08-19 15:38:37 UTC
Description of Problem:
All the 'New' options clutter the desktop right
click menu.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Right click on desktop
2.
3.

Actual Results:
When you right click on the desktop you get a list
of multiple menu options for "New Window", "New
Folder", "New Launcher" and "New Terminal".

Expected Results:

Instead having a "New" menu with the options
"Window", "Folder", Launcher" and "Terminal" would
be much cleaner and less cluttered.

How often does this happen?
Every time.

well submenus within context menus are very unHIGly.

My personal solution to this problem is to remove new window and new
terminal from the context menu, leaving only new launcher and new
folder and therefore no need for a submenu.

see bug 82463 for discussion of why new window should go, and my
rationale for new terminal is the same. Note i do think it would be
pretty cool to have open with => terminal for folders.

submenus in context menus are bad, and the hig recommends against
them. so i'm just going to mark this wontfix. (I know i'm excercing
ui judgement here but oh well)
