GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 91107
Cannot associate certain file types with any program
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Description: Unable to associate a program to handle a number of mime types. Problem first noticed for files with .rpm extension Steps to Reproduce: 1) Open Nautilus 2) Right click on RPM and select Open With ---> An Application 3) Select "Associate Application" 4) You are in the "Edit file type" screen. The actions frame is completely shaded out. You cannot select anything in the bottom half of that screen - and so cannot set the file handler. Frequency: All the time Expected Action: You should be able to set the handler for each MIME type Actual Action: You cannot set the handler for a number of file types. On my system .arj files, .tgz files etc. exhibit the same behavior Additional Notes: Problem reported by numerous people on gnomedesktop.org http://gnomesupport.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=362
Looks like a dupe of http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75620 and I think it's fixed in cvs but I'm only running 2.0.1rc1 so I can't be sure.
George: what version is this? are you still seeing it if you use the latest GNOME (2.0.2 rc1)?
The MIME system is being totally rewritten, so this should be re-checked.
Marking it as fixed, since this was the most important thing that dave, jrb and halfline wanted to get to work when they reworked the mime system, so I expect it to work ;)
