GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 87966
Toggle Fixed/Free aspectratio from Object menu
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
see this thread http://mail.gnome.org/archives/dia-list/2002-July/msg00136.html suggested enhancment allow the user to turn on/off "Fix Ratio" from the Object menu i suggest using the string Fixed or "Fix Ratio", or at least somemthing simpler and clearer than "Aspectratio Fixed/Free". (this bug has nothing to do with bug 59880)
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/dia-list/2002-April/msg00026.html >> I used to use Visco. When drawing ellipse, you press >> the Shift button, it will keep the ellipse a circle. >> Does dia have such function?
No, it doesn't. Ctrl-drag restricts the movement to horizontal/vertical. Since the modify tool remembers the starting point, it should be possible to have Shift-drag be with fixed ratio. We may or may not look at that for the upcoming release, which is mainly a Gtk2 release. After that we focus on UI.
Another thread on the mailing list vaguely about this http://mail.gnome.org/archives/dia-list/2002-September/msg00096.html
see also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93985 which reminds me that several people have brought this up on the mailing list, it will be very important to have some sort of keybinding/click n drag modifier key etc

I should probably change the summary, the implementation is not important. comments copied from duplicate: perfect circles and squares http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93985 The default ellipse and box objects are perfect circles and squares. This is good. But there is currently no way to keep the aspect ratio fixed when resizing them. Many drawing programs allow the use of the SHIFT key to hold the aspect ratio of ellipse and box objects fixed. Please add this feature.
mass bumping of version number to 0.91
Just added fixed ratio functionality for ellipses, should be trivial to do for rectangles as well. Not in object menu yet.
Now also in object menu, and with undo.
