Description Raphaël Quinet 2002-06-18 17:05:31 UTC
(Note: I know that I will most probably be the one who will have to deal
with this, but I do not have the time right now so I am reporting this as
a bug so that I do not forget about it.)

The new gimp-1.2.4-pre1 introduces a dependency on libgimpprint. This is a
new dependency (it was not required by the old versions of the print
plug-in as all the required code was included in the source tarball) and
this may surprise some people who attempt to upgrade their stable GIMP.
Although some Linux systems may already have some version of libgimpprint
installed, this is very unlikely on other UNIX-like systems. So this new
dependency may be even more important than the other dependencies on
libpng, libtiff and other libraries that may already be installed because
other programs need them.

This new dependency should be listed clearly on www.gimp.org. It should at
least be in http://www.gimp.org/install_help.html and maybe on some other
pages. When the stable release 1.2.4 is announced, the new dependency
should also be listed as part of the announcement.

The 1.2.4 announcement on the website includes a note about
libgimpprint. Raphael, will you change install_help.html and close
this report?
Comment 2 Raphaël Quinet 2003-05-20 16:14:26 UTC
I have updated http://www.gimp.org/install_help.html to mention the new
dependency on libgimpprint.

I have also updated the announcement in the news section of the home
page because it did not include the note about libgimpprint. This was
only mentioned in stable_ver.html, which is not read by many people,
according to the logs.

Changing all www.gimp.org bugs from gimp product to the gimp-web product,
including old closed/fixed bugs, and reassigning.
