Description Christian Fredrik Kalager Schaller 2002-05-20 11:49:45 UTC
Adding the patch from Jorn Baayen to bugzilla. This patch togheter with
the two patches for libgnome and gnome-control-center moves the the core
of gnome from depending on esound to depending on GStreamer. This gives the
core the benefit of sound server independence and improved media format
support. Post 2.0.

Patch for getting libgnomeui to use monkey-media (gstreamer)
Comment 2 alexander.winston 2004-01-03 05:06:55 UTC
Bumping the priority to High due to the patch attached.
Comment 3 Christian Fredrik Kalager Schaller 2004-01-03 16:46:42 UTC
This and the corresponding libgnome patch uses monkey-media. This is
not a good idea. We should use GStreamer directly. I am adding this to
GStreamer tasklist to get patches to use GStreamer itself.
Comment 4 Kjartan Maraas 2004-03-29 18:36:35 UTC
Got a timeframe for this? Should it be on the radar for 2.7 or later?

Patch for getting libgnomeui to use monkey-media (gstreamer)

Marking patch needs work, since monkey-media is deprecated and we don't have a
'refused' status.

libgnomeui_gstreamer_v000.patch

RFC patch. Possibly not working.
Comment 7 Kjartan Maraas 2005-07-01 16:58:09 UTC
Maybe someone from the GStreamer team could comment on this.
Comment 8 Ronald Bultje 2005-07-10 20:47:20 UTC
Kjartan: depending on an ABI/API unstable gstreamer may not be a good idea, even
though we don't expose interface. I'd suggest to wait for 1.0. There's also some
stability concerns, especially GStreamer's problems with short WAV files come to
mind.
Comment 9 Kjartan Maraas 2005-11-20 16:44:05 UTC
Setting patch status to commented-on. It's not like this patch is just idling
here waiting to be commited :-)
Comment 10 Olav Vitters 2006-11-11 23:22:24 UTC
*** Bug 374073 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 11 Christian Persch 2007-06-07 11:47:42 UTC
See also bug 445078 which has a patch with a new approach to this.
Comment 12 Priit Laes (IRC: plaes) 2007-06-15 20:26:26 UTC
Marking as depending on bug 445078.
Comment 13 Pacho Ramos 2008-09-06 16:18:42 UTC
Is this still valid for 2.24 with libcanberra?
Comment 14 Kjartan Maraas 2008-09-08 14:39:18 UTC
Guess not. Closing.
