GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 82340
Patch for moving libgnomeui to GStreamer
Last modified: 2008-09-08 14:39:18 UTC
Adding the patch from Jorn Baayen to bugzilla. This patch togheter with the two patches for libgnome and gnome-control-center moves the the core of gnome from depending on esound to depending on GStreamer. This gives the core the benefit of sound server independence and improved media format support. Post 2.0.

Bumping the priority to High due to the patch attached.
This and the corresponding libgnome patch uses monkey-media. This is not a good idea. We should use GStreamer directly. I am adding this to GStreamer tasklist to get patches to use GStreamer itself.
Got a timeframe for this? Should it be on the radar for 2.7 or later?
Comment on attachment 8594 [details] [review] Patch for getting libgnomeui to use monkey-media (gstreamer) Marking patch needs work, since monkey-media is deprecated and we don't have a 'refused' status.
Created attachment 38116 [details] [review] libgnomeui_gstreamer_v000.patch RFC patch. Possibly not working.
Maybe someone from the GStreamer team could comment on this.
Kjartan: depending on an ABI/API unstable gstreamer may not be a good idea, even though we don't expose interface. I'd suggest to wait for 1.0. There's also some stability concerns, especially GStreamer's problems with short WAV files come to mind.
Setting patch status to commented-on. It's not like this patch is just idling here waiting to be commited :-)

See also bug 445078 which has a patch with a new approach to this.
Marking as depending on bug 445078.
Is this still valid for 2.24 with libcanberra?
Guess not. Closing.
