This is a known bug that is being worked on. Hopefully, it will be fixed in GNOME 1.4.1. In the meantime, if you're using Red Hat Linux, please try the gnome-libs and gnome-core packages available at http://www.gnome.org/~kmaraas and see if those help. Please let us know what locale and gettext version you are running with.
locale is en_US gettext version is gettext-0.10.38-7 RedHat RPM
Can you try and see if it goes away when using LC_ALL=C? You can choose Posix/C locale in gdm when logging in.
Well, the problem is not there for me anymore. It only happened once, when I first started a new-installed Star Office. Subsequent starting of Star Office does not produce any problem.
