Description Michael Catanzaro 2018-05-16 13:59:13 UTC
If I close Geary and then immediately reopen it (within a second or two later), then Geary will close itself unexpectedly. It's not crashing, so I can't provide any backtrace. It's just quitting itself.

I often close and reopen Geary when it starts failing to update the unread message count (which happens to me several times per day).

Using 0.12, not master, right?

The currently hides the main window immediately while shutting down in the background, but shutdown can take a while at the moment, for reasons. So if you launch it again immediately before shutdown has completed, a new window will open, but disappear again when the process exits.

I've done a fair bit of work improving shutdown lag/hang that over on Bug 745561 which has gone into master already. There's still one or two corner cases though. Once that's mostly fixed, I'm planning on keeping the window open but insensitive (or something) while shutdown is happening so people at least know what's going on.

Does this happen less often on master?

0.12.2, yes.

I guess that would be OK.

Dunno, don't want to test it now, sorry.

No problem. You can probably check if this is actually the case by launching Geary from the command line initially and reproducing - the process won't have exited by the time the second appears, but will exit shortly thereafter.

Anyway, I'll mark this as dup of Bug 745561 for now, please do reopen if the theory doesn't hold up.
