GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 792898
On Geary 0.12.0 running on Zorin 12.2 unable to maximize display. Display keeps changing.
Last modified: 2018-04-21 01:48:51 UTC
Not sure if this is the correct place to report this issue. On initial install of Zorin 12.2, Gear function correctly in relation to the display image. Then when I logged on at a future date the Geary screen would not maximize and with each logon the screen would get worse. I'm a new Linux/Zorin user so please forgive me if I have reported in the wrong location. If you need additional information please give me the necessary instructions on how to supply. Thanks for any help in advance.
This sounds like the same bug as 1622377 This bug report is a duplicate of: Bug #1547949: Window-width GSetting has a very high value on first run.ich looks like a dup.
Hi Bern, thanks for reporting this issue. Can you please provide the following information so we can diagnose the problem: - What desktop environment are you using? (GNOME, KDE, etc) - What version of Geary do you have installed? (0.11? 0.12?) - How did you install Geary? (Flatpak, Zorin package, source install?) - A screenshot that illustrates the problem
Created attachment 367476 [details] Geary 0.12.0 maximize issue Unable to maximize or minimize to fit screen using icon but you can manually adjust the window. When you exit Geary and return the screen changes again. I boot up with Zorin with linux 4.10.0-42 generic
Of interest if I disable "use three pane view", the screen fits normally. My pc is a ASUS EEE 1005ha, which has a maximum scree size of 1024x600. Is it possible that Geary has a problem handling this screen size? Just a thought.
Hi Bern, Thanks for the extra information. So you're saying in 3-pane mode, Geary is too wide to fit on your screen, and when maximised, this does strange things to your desktop? Can you also attach a screenshot of what your desktop looks like normally so I can compare that to the one above so I know what the difference is? Geary is designed for the GNOME 3 desktop, which by default only uses a single Close window button on the left, and Geary fits by design onto a 1024 screen under GNOME, but only just. Since Zorin uses Minimise, Maximise and Close by default, these buttons take up more room on the toolbar, and this may be causing Geary to be a bit too wide on that small screen. We're making some UI changes for the next release however which may help, so once 0.13 comes out, this situation may improve somewhat.
Created attachment 367547 [details] Geary no three pane view Can you set me through on how to uninstall Geary and then reinstall. Then I will see if the problem reoccurs. This may also fix another issue I'm having with not being able to forward links in Firefox or Chromium. I have will also included that error message.
Okay, based on that and your description, I would say this problem is due to Geary not working well on smaller displays, and your desktop not liking that. There's already a bug for Geary on smaller displays, so I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of that. Thanks for the bug report and extra information! *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 714935 ***
