GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 792389
Refine main window layout
Last modified: 2019-03-31 13:34:00 UTC
Geary has accumulated a lot of different requests for various main window configurations and features such as full-window mode (Bug 713856), horizontal layout (Bug 714391), merged conversation list and viewer (a.k.a GMail-style layout, Bug 714183), responsive layouts (Bug 747112), and so on. The current main window layout is by no means perfect, so it would be good to step back and think about what we want to aim for. I tend to agree with Jim's comment in Bug 714391 comment #9 that a merged conversation list and viewer is the way to go for non-widescreen displays, which along with a means of easily hiding/showing the account sidebar may take care of most use-cases. However it might be the case that for very width-constrained environments a stack with the existing UI as three separate panes might still be necessary. I'll start collecting requirements as dependencies/duplicates of this bug, if anyone has other suggestions please do mention them here.
I would like to suggest that when View Source is selected, if possible, display that information within the confines of Geary. In Fedora Linux (28), LibreOffice launches in order to display the headers. Thank you.
This is being taken care of over at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/141 Edward, if LibreOffice is launched by View Source, it's because you have that set as the default editor for plain text files. LibreOffice isn't a great plain text file editor, so I would recommend you install GEdit and set that as the default instead.
