The issue has been reported on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1720510 against g-s 3.26.1

- Closed Software
- Started Software
- Search for "soft" and the result wasn't presented
- Clicked outside the Software window and the result was shown."

or 

"open gnome-software, select a category and view an application in a subcategory. I navigate back using the button in the GUI and then select a different subcategory."
