GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 788313
1.8.4, git master nm-applet hangs if no notification daemon installed
Last modified: 2020-11-12 14:31:28 UTC
My conditions: - No notifaction daemon running - 1.8.4 or git-master nm-applet (1.8.5) - OpenBox DE - Connect or disconnect from a network Expected behavior: - No hanging, and no notification What happens: - nm-applet becomes unresponsive for a long while, until a time-out is reached with the following stderr messages: (nm-applet:1139): libnotify-WARNING **: Failed to connect to proxy (nm-applet:1139): nm-applet-WARNING **: Failed to show notification: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.Notifications: Timeout was reached Running dunst or another notification daemon resolves.
Correction: XFCE desktop environment, OpenBox window manager, archbang distro.
nm-applet --no-agent also disables notifications, and is a workaround for those without a notification daemon installed.
Good catch, I have similar problems under MATE, because although notify-send is installed not working properly (a fairly common problem).
bugzilla.gnome.org is being shut down in favor of a GitLab instance. We are closing all old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen updates for a long time. If you still use NetworkManager and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a recent and supported version of NetworkManager, then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/issues/ Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented (workforce and time is unfortunately limited).
