I moved from GNOME 3.14 to 3.22 with an update to Debian Stretch. In 3.14, the umask setting at ~/.profile is honored. In 3.22, the umask setting is not honored.

How does one set umask for GDM logins?

Setting umask at /etc/login.defs is also not honored by Gnome.

Where is gnome getting its umask value from? Why is it not respecting ~/.profile?

I hope this gets attention because I'll have to continue using Debian Jessie (with gnome 3.14) or switch my Desktop Environment away from gnome if it is not fixed in a timely fashion with a backport to 3.22. In my work environment, I deal with personal, sensitive information and I can't have every document I create readable by everyone.
