GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 784031
appdata assets place under static/download gnome.org
Last modified: 2017-06-24 10:52:10 UTC
Please consider defining a static namespace under gnome.org for appdata assets e.g. screenshots. Fill it automatically from git. e.g a git hook copying gnome-clocks/data/appdata/* in static.gnome.org/appdata/gnome-clocks
We will need to define some standard location for metadata in Git, and it will need to be documented on the Maintainers Corner wiki page.
A lot of maintainers use data/appdata/* -- and a lot use something else. Is there a problem downloading the assets from git directly like https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-software/plain/data/appdata/ss-overview.png ?
I have no problem with a final judgment call about direct links to git.gnome.org being the preferred way of doing this. It just that IMHO cross purpose use of one domain name usually bites back at some point.
You can safely use static.gnome.org which is redundant across the proxies and is maintained via the static-web repository under git.gnome.org. Just create a top directory called appdata and go from it.
Someone else other than me (thanks mclasen) jumped forward with the static.g.o/appdata/.. arrangement (recipes). Clocks moved to the same new setup. I've not heard anything in opposition yet so I'll consider static.gnome.org/appdata/ as mostly settled. Thanks
