Steps to reproduce the problem:
1.  try to be productive using gnome+the panel.
2. start _some_  bigger program -> sometimes panel crashes.

How often does this happen?

At least 5 times a day.

It is somewhat annoying.

This bug has been seriously mystifying.  Could you possibly provide
more information to help debugging?  Particuly, please provide
information about:

1. Distribution and version
2. GNOME packaging (Ximian GNOME? From your distribution? From gnome.org?)
3. Type of computer (Laptop?  Desktop?)
4. Video chipset / X server

Any information you provide could be useful.  Thanks!

It is just the panel that crashes none of the other apps so it is related to 
something the panel needs and all the rest does not.
