Description Allan Day 2017-05-09 09:19:17 UTC
Right now, there's no way to tell whether the scan button is set to text/photo or page/feeder without opening up the scan menu and inspecting it. Surfacing these settings would make the UI less work to use.

The latest designs use a set of four icons in the scan button to indicate these settings:

They also recommend using a popover and using the suggested action style on the button.

Are those icons stock icons? I can't seem to find them anywhere..

No, no they're not. I'm currently discussing the best solution with the icon designers.

The designs have changed a bit since I originally created this report. They now use two sets of icons to indicate the current settings: an "input" icon, which shows flatbed, feeder or timer (that's multiple pages from flatbed), and a separate icon for text/image.

For the input icons, I'd suggest:

 * Flatbed: scanner-symbolic from the icon theme (you could copy this into simple scan and rename to something more appropriate, if you wanted)
 * Feeder: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/document-scanner/icons/document-feeder.svg
 * Timer: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/document-scanner/icons/multiple-pages-flatbed.svg

For document type:

 * https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/document-scanner/icons/x-office-text.svg
 * x-office-drawing-symbolic from the icon theme

I'm no expert when it comes to creating icons, so just let me know if there are any issues with these assets.
