Description charmer 2002-04-09 22:23:42 UTC
Package: gnome-core
Severity: minor
Version: 1.4.0.6
Synopsis: panel crashed while opening an application
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-core
Bugzilla-Component: panel

Description:
i have not see this bug before, so i don't know how to reproduce it.

i opened an xpdf window by typing ``xpdf filename'' in a gnome terminal
window. i received a message that the panel had crashed at the same
time the window opened. i'm not sure that the panel actually crashed; i
just got a message to that effect and this window came up.

i'm sorry, but i don't have any more information than that ...

note that this is a fast laptop and windows open very quickly. perhaps
it is a
race condition connected with that?

Could you provide a few more details, like distribution, distribution
version, GNOME packages (vanilla distribution packages, packages from
gnome.org, Ximian GNOME, etc.)? The bug this is a duplicate of is a
bit of a mystery, and any information would help.

Thanks!

hi heath,

thanks for looking at this. i like your domain name. from a tom
robbins novel?

i'm going to reopen this on the assumption that this additional
information may cause it to be considered a non-duplciate.

the box is a IBM T23 laptop with a 1133 MHz mobile P3 and 640 Mbyte
RAM. i'm running XFree86 v4.1.0 with some patches from S3 for the
SuperSavage video chipset. because of bugs in the driver for
my SuperSavage chipset the laptop occasionally crashes. perhaps
that's the explanation for the panel crash?

sorry i didn't mention that before; i didn't think of it.

more info:

gnome upgraded to helix-gnome from ximian website to most
recent version as of 4/1/02 (approximately)
