GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 781593
'compose key' docs are not up to date
Last modified: 2017-08-04 14:04:04 UTC
The GUI settings for 'compose key' have been moved from Settings>Keyboard to 'tweak tool'. Documentation should be updated :)
Tweak Tool 3.25.3 will move the Compose key setting to the Keyboard & Mouse panel. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/tweak-tool/tweak-tool-wires.png I don't know if the Settings app (gnome-control-center) will eventually get the Compose Key settings back. Although Tweak Tool is pre-installed by many distros, it is not (yet?) part of GNOME Core and is not pre-installed in Fedora or Ubuntu at this time. That's not a problem; it just needs to have a bit extra in the docs to help a user install Tweak Tool if needed.
@jbicha: I just updated the docs in bug 777876 before seeing this ticket. https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-user-docs/commit/?id=1ba6e355d1da48f0ca24a6047a4482efee23d69a says: + <p>Click <gui>Tweak Tool</gui> to open the application.</p> + <p>Click the <gui>Typing</gui> tab.</p> + <p>Expand <gui>Position of Compose key</gui>.</p> Is that still correct? Don't have 3.25 handy (yet).
(In reply to André Klapper from comment #2) > Is that still correct? Don't have 3.25 handy (yet). No, that's been changed so that it now looks closer to the mockup: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/tweak-tool/tweak-tool-wires.png https://jeremy.bicha.net/2017/06/19/gnome-tweak-tool-3-25-3/ Fedora Rawhide and Ubuntu 17.10 Alpha both have Tweaks 3.25.4
Ah thanks. So how would I go change that setting? Click the "Disabled" / "Right Alt" text in the screenshots? Click the "Additional Layout Options" button? > Fedora Rawhide and Ubuntu 17.10 Alpha both have Tweaks 3.25.4 Still fiddling with unresolved dependencies here. :(
Something like… Click Disabled to the right of the Compose Key. Turn the switch on in the dialog and pick which keyboard shortcut you want to use. Close the dialog. Additional Layout Options is a different dialog that's not used for customizing the Compose Key.
Thank you! Pushed for 3.25.90 in https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-user-docs/commit/?id=71e6745390a0ba622595bba7ec76754bcc3eaa0e
