GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 778133
customizing media shortcuts make bluetooth headset keys dysfunctional
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:32:45 UTC
Media buttons in bluetooth headset doesn't work anymore once the media shortcut keys are customized in keyboard shortcuts.
I'm not sure how we're supposed to fix that. The Bluetooth headset's buttons work as the media keys on a keyboard do. You would get exactly the same problem on a USB headset, if you changed the volume up/down buttons' configuration.
How about making both the keys work as long as there isn't a conflict. Like if I change the media-next to have some custom shortcut, both the custom shortcut and the original media-next button would work (as long as media-next button is not used as some other shortcut). This would also help users which would love to have different keyboard shortcuts for external keyboards while keeping the media keys on their laptop keyboard alive. Or something like that. :)

How do I know that the user wants to assign a key combination because they prefer it, or don't have that key on their keyboard, or want to disable it? > This would also help users which would love to have different keyboard > shortcuts for external keyboards while keeping the media keys on their > laptop keyboard alive. Sorry, I don't have answers for these questions. I hope that most of the average users would simply require to change (and not disable) the shortcut. Hope the design team shall have a better answer. Thanks.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
