Description yvan 2017-01-18 16:27:04 UTC
Hi,

This bug was originally reported on Debian bugtracker: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=851763

I am using LXDE desktop on DebianStretch. When updates are available, seen by
PackageKit and downloaded, Gnome Software displays a "Restart and
install" blue button in the "updates" tab (labels might not be exact, I
can not find a way to run Gnome Software in English).

The problem is that clicking on it does not reboot computer. Actually,
from the user point of view, it does nothing. As this work when using
Gnome desktop, I suppose this is because the reboot action is done in
desktop-specific way. I can not tell if this work on other DEs.

However, when I manually reboot the computer, the updates are correctly
installed.

I suppose this is not easy, but could this button trigger a reboot in a more generic way, so that it works on other DEs? Or, if not feasible, detect that DE is not Gnome and change the label to something like "Install updates on next boot"?

Best regards,
Yvan

I don't think it's a bug that gnome-software depends on gnome-session and gnome-settings-daemon. I would however review a patch that handles this in a nicer way on !GNOME desktops, I just don't want to write it myself.
