GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 775385
Confusing error message which includes the text "file file"
Last modified: 2018-06-29 23:52:19 UTC
I reported in another bug report: #775124, "Running the uninstaller on XP leaves various registry entries. After a re-installation of GnuCash, these cause a problem." that a confusing error message of: "The file file://F:\test.gnucash could not be found" appeared. The double use of the word "file" seems odd. The main point of my bug report was closed as NOT a BUG, but Geert Janssens [GnuCash developer] did write "Finally, regarding the weird file file stuff in the error message. The file: prepended to the file name is to indicate you created an ordinary file for your data (in xml or sqlite format) instead of a database (mysql or pgsql). So while odd this is more or less intended. I think you are right though this is a poor way to convey this to the user. So yes, please file a separate bug report for this. We can certainly do better than that!" So this is the separate bug report, as requested. I am actually using Windoze, but intend switching to Linux when using this fully, but I'm told this is the same on all platforms, so I set it as all.
This problem has been fixed in our software repository. The fix will go into the next software release.
Thank you.
