GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 775299
GDM does not respect default session when automatic login is enabled
Last modified: 2017-06-05 20:52:40 UTC
I configured GDM to log me in automatically, by setting the AutomaticLogin and AutomaticLoginEnable properties in /etc/gdm/custom.conf. However, when I do this, GDM no longer respects my default session preference. My default session preference is Gnome Xorg. If I disable automatic login, then the GDM login screen always has Gnome Xorg selected automatically. However, if I enable automatic login, then GDM automatically logs me into the Gnome Wayland session. I have noticed that if I uncomment the "#WaylandEnable=false" line in /etc/gdm/custom.conf, then GDM does properly log me into Gnome Xorg automatically. However, this then means that GDM will be using Xorg too, instead of its default Wayland backend. This was tested on Arch Linux with GDM 3.22.1-1.
