GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 772088
Feature wish: Better brush management (and how to do it)
Last modified: 2018-05-24 16:57:32 UTC
A long long time ago, i was a descent designer using photoshop, but since that never became more than a hobby and i couldnt see photoshop was worth the cost for my use, i happened to like Gimp, because it fills my needs and it became my artist tool of choise beside inkscape. In fact, i like it so much, i have built up a massive set of brushes, i think its in the thousands, many collections i have downloaded that helps me greatly creating good looking graphics. So i need to clean up the list. But how do i do that, without deleting the brushes i need? There are no tumbnails of the brushes if i browse trough the catalogue and many brushes i want have filenames similar to those i dont want, and i havent been able to find a descent "aftermarket" brush management tool to do this in windows. The only way to remove brushes in Gimp at the moment, is to go trough a tiring process deleting one brush after another. This could take me a whole day to get done. Therefore, my wish is that Gimp do something about this, so you can mark several brushes in the brush-window inside gimp, just like you can mark files in a file browser, and choose delete on several brushes at once. Such as holding shift while you click trough the brushes to mark several before you choose "delete". I dont think this would take too much work getting done by the gimp devs? --- Another but less imporant wish would be to be able to delete plugins i dont want from inside gimp too, by just rightclicking in the menu and choose "delete", and maybe even move around things in the menu using "drag and drop" or similar.
> There are no tumbnails of the brushes In GIMP? There are thumbnails and they are more prominently displayed than the brush name. Or do you mean in your file browser? In any case, yes better brush management is part of the thing we want to achieve. About multi-selection, that's a good idea but since selection is also used to set the current active brush, we have to discuss what happens when several brushes are selected. Bug 773003 has an initial specing initiative on brush management. It did not deal with the deletion cases. > Another but less imporant wish would be to be able to delete plugins For better follow up, please create separate bug reports for separate issues. :-) In any case, actual plugin management is a pet project I have been planning to get going for years. Actually asset management as a whole, which could include brush packages. This actually raise some questions about deleting part of assets.
Ok so in fact, there is already multi-selection, but only in list view. In the brushes dock, click the dock menu and "View as List". In this view, you can ctrl and shift-click to select as many brushes as you want at once.
