GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 771885
Auto Snapping Layers / Selections to each other
Last modified: 2018-05-24 16:57:07 UTC
Created attachment 336167 [details] Snapping_selections Hi, Kindly consider implementing some auto snapping (with on-the-fly guides maybe) for selection tools, possibly for layers too. E.g when there is an active selection, say a circle, and I draw (in add/subtract mode) another selection, simply moving it next to/over/across the active selection should prompt snapping on the edge or centre of the active selection. Besides dragging in the usual guides, late GIMP arbitrary determine possible snapping points (e.g center/edge) of a given selection or layer. Regards.
This could be interesting. > snapping on the edge or centre of the active selection. Snapping on the edge is ok, but defining which center we want to snap to is harder. Of course, for ellipses or rectangles, no problem, but for complex selections, there are several points which could qualify as center (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_(geometry)#General_polygons). We could also decide on using rather the center of the bounding box of the selection as a possibility. So yes, not impossible but just saying a selection, as a generic tool, is not just squares and circles. :-) Also it would be better to split such feature requests (a report on snapping on selection and one on snapping on layer).
