Description mail 2016-08-25 18:03:13 UTC
When I use " save image " option in browser and then the popup opens asking where to save and file name. But when I type ( with file name auto highlighted), it simply searches for file starting with those alphabets amongst the already existing files in that folder.

For example, the file name area is highlighted and I want to save it as Mac, it simply calls files with name starting from " M " to the file name bar. I have use mouse and re-highlight the file name address bar before able to type into it.

Hope I presented the issue properly. Kindly address.

PS : On 16.04, Unity

I don't understand any of this, but I'm going to assume it's a problem with the file chooser.
Comment 2 Matthias Clasen 2016-08-26 11:35:22 UTC
which application is this even talking about ? is it a save-mode filechooser ? too little information.
Comment 3 mail 2016-08-26 12:06:05 UTC
I will try to simplify. Consider you are saving a file, when you initiate the action, the next thing you expect to do is enter the file name. But instead if taking in file name, the system displays file names with entered characters ? Clear now ?

It's been like this since 14.04

PS : @matthias clasen , this the place I should be talking about file manager in Unity for 16.04, right ?
Comment 4 mail 2016-08-26 20:17:04 UTC
Just in case my effort so far went futile, you won't be able to enter a file name after " save image " command in browser unless you click on the address bar where you enter the file name.
Comment 5 Matthias Clasen 2016-08-29 14:07:00 UTC
you didn't answer my questions in Comment 2. Mentioning ubuntu versions is not going to help, I need to know what version of gtk this is.

I am not reproducing your problem with my test cases
Comment 6 mail 2016-08-29 20:32:07 UTC
@nMatthias Clasen , how can I find the version of gtk ? Only versions I know is that of Ubuntu and Unity. Unity 7, if it matters.

Or if you can help me find it please.

Also, simply try to save an image from browser ( in my case, Firefox ). There are cases when the name field is not active by default.
Comment 7 Matthias Clasen 2016-09-11 14:45:53 UTC
gtk-launch --version should tell you, for example
Comment 8 mail 2016-09-11 15:50:14 UTC
It threw an error instead

[quote]$ gtk-launch --version
Error parsing commandline options: Unknown option --version

Try "gtk-launch --help" for more information.
