GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 768886
[gnome-font-viewer] shows empty window when opening font file clR9x15.pcf
Last modified: 2017-05-22 03:41:49 UTC
Created attachment 331630 [details] PCF font file clR9x15.pcf When opening font file clR9x15.pcf with gnome-font-viewer 3.20.2, only an empty window is displayed.
Created attachment 338803 [details] Alternate font file clR9x15.pcf displayed correctly Alternate font file clR9x15.pcf retrieved from https://github.com/rdebath/SLS-1.02/blob/master/usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts/misc/clR9x15.pcf.
Issue persists for GNOME 3.22.x and GNOME 3.24.x. Note that for the Fedora font file clR9x15.pcf, command 'file clR9x15.pcf' returns "X11 Portable Compiled Font data". For the alternate font file clR9x15.pcf command 'file clR9x15.pcf' returns "X11 Portable Compiled Font data, LSB first".
Thanks for the report. Freetype does not seem to be able to identify any glyphs in the font -- that's why no characters can be displayed. I think that means that this is either a malformed file or a bug in Freetype. Where does the file come from? Can you report it to the Freetype bug tracker? In the meantime, I don't think there's much I can do on the gnome-font-viewer side, so I will close this as NOTGNOME.
(In reply to Cosimo Cecchi from comment #3) This issue has been around for a few years now with every new release of Fedora. Font file clR9x15.pcf is included in RPM package xorg-x11-fonts-misc-7.5-16.fc24.noarch.
