GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 766534
Geary hangs when opening preferences (or any other overlay)
Last modified: 2016-05-17 04:41:12 UTC
Using Archlinux and the new Geary 0.11 (issue also present on 0.10) whenever I attempt to open preferences the app hangs (along with the whole system)for 30 seconds or so before finally showing the menu. Mouse input still works, but clicking does nothing, and Gnome shell is unresponsive. Further, the app does the same thing when opening the "accounts", "about", etc. options in the drop-down. It seems to be anything that involves an overlay. This issue doesn't seem to output any messages, so I don't know what exactly is causing it. However, it makes the app fairly annoying to use, as anytime you need to change a setting it locks the entire computer up.
Hi Britt, thanks for reporting this issue. Are you running gnome-shell with app menus disabled? If so, you may be running into Bug 759980. If not, what desktop environment are you using?
I am running with app-menu's disabled, i.e. the button is in the upper left hand corner of each window, not on the top Gnome bar. Yes I believe this is the same issue as 759980, though my Geary never crashed, it always (eventually) seems to unhang itself.
Yep, that probably is the same issue then. Applying the patch from that bug and rebuilding should fix it for you if you want an immediate work-around, otherwise I'll be landing it on the trunk for the next release soon. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 759980 ***
What type of release schedule are you planning for the next gen Geary? Can I safely assume it wont be 9 months between releases lol ;-) I asked the Archlinux maintainers if they would patch this in, we don't need to support GTK 3.10 over there, so hopefully this will work for the time being.
Don't worry, it definitely won't be another 9 months. :)
