Give us this very useful feature natively please because extensions stop working when Gnome is updated and there is no warranty an extension update will be released.

No, we don't want tooltips, not least because they don't work at all on touch. The underlying issue is that some applications use long names that aren't distinguishable in the app view, which is bug 663725.
