Description jackieb 2016-04-20 00:14:17 UTC
on 3.20,
If a gnome terminal server window is placed
at the left edge of a display to the right
and the mouse cursor is in this window within 15-30 pixels of the left display edge
- then
the entire display shows violent video corruption
- bottom half is flashing black with purple vertical lines
- top half is a flashing show of the windows on the right display
note: only in this narrow band, somewhat away from the edge

On 3.18, this area caused the mouse cursor to flicker between different shapes
- on 3.20 the mouse cursor in this area is a steady, default size non-custom setting text input cursor

EXPECTED
no video tearing
the larges vertical text mouse cursor configured in settings

Also happens for gedit and Libreoffice
Does not happen over background or for chromium-browser
Comment 2 jackieb 2017-01-12 18:58:23 UTC
This is fixed as of 3.22.2
May have been fixed by i915 kernel command line parameter i915.enable_rc6=0
