GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 764915
Automatic login into Wayland session not working
Last modified: 2016-05-21 13:24:20 UTC
Created attachment 325748 [details] Content of the files /etc/gdm/custom.conf and /var/lib/AccountsService/users/test I use Wayland as the default display server in GNOME 3.20.0 (running on Arch Linux 64 bit). Unexpectedly, when enabling auto-login via Settings -> Users -> Automatic login, this results in a X-session being started. When disabling automatic login and logging into the same user account by manually entering the password, GDM properly remembers "GNOME on Wayland" to be the default session to be started and logging in results in a running Wayland session. I switched to Wayland as the default session after upgrading to GNOME 3.20 by logging out of a running session and selecting "GNOME on Wayland" using the settings button displayed next to the selected user in GDM. I did not do a fresh install and used X-server as the default before. For testing purposes I created a new user account "test" and the problem remained. The content of my system's /etc/gdm/custom.conf- and /var/lib/AccountsService/users/test-files can be found attached to this bug report.

I have the same problem. I think maybe the problems are related but aren't the same because i use a patched version of GDM with patch attached to the bug 761785. Even so an automatic login always starts an X session although my default is a wayland session.
