The following has started happening with Gnome Terminal 3.20. Downgrading vte and gnome-terminal to 3.18 works around the issue for me for now.

When I use Vim, moving the cursor will frequently result in cursor "leftovers", as seen in the attached screenshot. It's also reasonably frequent, although I'm not sure I can provide a pattern of keystrokes that will reliably produce this. The screenshot took me about 10 seconds of typing random stuff to produce.
