Description Karl Eichwalder 2016-03-16 14:51:04 UTC
Version unknown (about menu entry is missing).

If the index is selected and I then press tab, evince rather fast pages through the complete document. But I expected evince to move the focus to the area of the application where the document is visible.

Which version are you running?

In Evince master (close to 3.20), pressing Tab changes the focus *almost* as expected. The focus changes between the left pane and the header bar. The document does not get the focus (or at least it does not seem to get it).

on openSUSE Leap 42.1:

rpm -q evince
evince-3.14.2-2.8.x86_64

Blame SLE and poppler for that decision. There is no way to update Evince in Leap 42.1 to anything newer.
