evince - can't make the sidebar smaller than this

not sure if this is related to #674739 but the sidebar of evince is simply too big; there is more white-space next to the thumbnails than the size of the thumbnails themselves. Fedora23, v. 3.18.2. Attached screenshot.

What decides the width of the sidebar is the list box on top of the sidebar. The sidebar is going to be as wide as the longest text there.

I think this is a duplicated one, but I don't have time at this moment to look for the duplicate(s).

i thought it's related to the list box items on top too; but the texts of the items are one word only and all smaller (narrower) than the actual thumbnails. even with margins and the dropdown/x buttons as they are now, the size could be reduced as the sidebar is too big for the small thumbnails now.
