GNOME Caribous Bug (208.06 KB, image/png)

Details

Description Ritesh Raj Sarraf 2015-11-29 12:10:35 UTC
I'm filing this as a generic bug but the example I'll quote is specific to Caribou.

GNOME has the philosophy to be simple and uncluttered. What exactly is targeted as "simple and uncluttered".

The current status of Caribou is broken. So I'm trying to explore a simple method to disable the Caribou keyboard so that I can explore other options.

I cannot see anywhere, a single button, to disable the Caribou keyboard.

It is in the universal access panel, 'Screen Keyboard'

No. I do not see how you think that keeps it permanently disabled.

If you touch into any text input field, org.gnome.Caribou.Daemon gets activated. And the Caribou keyboard will show up.

What I'm asking is, in the name of GNOME Simplicity, you should also have a "Single Button" approach to completely disable a feature/service. Uninstalling is not the right thing always. And many a times (in this case too), such packages are marked as Dependency.

Please also see attached screen shot to ensure we both are talking the same thing. To the best of my knowledge, currently, GNOME does not have a simple approach to disable certain features/services.
