GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 756062
No way to directly add device to bookmarks without mounting first
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:54:11 UTC
The new "other locations" concept does not provide a way to bookmark external drives without first mounting them. If I attach a new backup or storage drive, I should not need to 1) mount 2) bookmark 3) unmount the drive in order to add it to bookmarks. Steps to reproduce: 1) Right-click on drive in "other locations" pane Expected result: Ability to "Add bookmark" Actual result: No menu item for "Add bookmark" Or 1) Attempt to drag device from "other locations" pane to sidebar Expected result: Drive is "dragged" to sidebar, creating bookmark Actual result: Drive not draggable
Here if I bookmark a directory on a device then unmount also makes nautilus crash
Instead of reusing the concept of "Bookmarks", maybe we should call it "Pin to Sidebar" or "Add to Sidebar", adding them to the "drives" section of the sidebar, instead of the bookmarks section. The same could work for network mount bookmarks (bug 756418). (In reply to Lapo Calamandrei from comment #1) > Here if I bookmark a directory on a device then unmount also makes nautilus > crash May be another bug. Is this still happening? If so, please file a new report with a stacktrace.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
